Microgreens

History

Over the winter of 2019-2020 we started experimenting with growing fodder for our animals. Many people aren’t aware of fodder, but fodder is a way of sprouting seeds and growing them for a short amount of time, and then using them as feed for the animals. We were growing wheat and barley fodder and then feeding it to both our sheep and chickens. Fodder gave us the ability to greatly reduce our feed cost because a 50lb bag of fodder can grow to as much as 300lb of feed for the animal.

We never had a whole lot of success with our system, and early on in the year we found the whole process to be more trouble than what it was worth. We started researching on how we could repurposed the system to better suite the farm. This en devour led us to find microgreens, which all we needed to add was a growing medium (soil) and lights. Down the rabbit whole we went learning and growing. After a large number of test batches we felt comfortable bringing the product to the public and the rest is history.
